You can get help if you want to quit sex work. You can get help looking for a new line of work, for example, or if you want to apply for benefits.
In Amsterdam, for example, ACS helps. In Utrecht, you can contact Belle. SPOT46 can help you in The Hague. And Door2Door (Dutch only) in Rotterdam.

Find different work
Are you thinking about quitting sex work? If so, think about what new kind of work you would like to do. In the hospitality sector, for example. In healthcare. Or in a shop.
Do you need training for your new work? Sometimes, you can get help and money for that.
Do you know what you want to do? Check out job vacancy websites to find a job.
Benefits
Are you unable to find different work right away? If so, you can often apply for social assistance benefits. It doesn’t matter that you were a sex worker.
Do you want to apply for social assistance benefits? Then you must:
- Be 18 or older
- Be a Dutch citizen, have a residency permit or come from the EU
- Not earning enough money to pay your rent, for example
- You don’t have a lot of savings
In Amsterdam, ACS helps sex workers with the application. That way, you don’t have to do it alone.
Moving
Do you live where you work? Or are you unable to pay your rent if you quit sex work? In that case, you will have to look for somewhere else to live.
It is difficult to find a cheap rental home, especially in big cities. That is why you should also look in smaller areas around the city. This is how to do that:
- Register with Woningnet (Dutch only). That is the website that lists all public-sector rental accommodation in the Netherlands. You often have to wait quite a long time. In other words, you won’t get a place to live straight away. However, the longer you are registered, the more chance you have of getting a place to live
- Tell everyone you know that you are looking for a place to live. That way, you will hear about a house or room for rent somewhere faster. On Facebook, for example
- Search on the Internet. There are a lot of ads there for houses and rooms. On Marktplaats, for example (Dutch only)
