How do you use drugs safely during sex?

  • Do you have chemsex? That is not without risks
  • Especially if you use different types of drugs together
  • Read about how to use drugs as safely as possible during sex
  • So you won’t become addicted to them, and avoid getting an STI

Safe chemsex

Do you use drugs during sex? That is not without risks. The risk that you will do things that your normally wouldn’t do is greater. You can also become addicted to the drugs. That will make it more difficult to have sex without them.

How do you use drugs as safely as possible during sex? Read our tips below.

You can also take a look at the website of  Chemsex for more information. On this website you can also find more information about different types of drugs.

Before sex

Make sure you eat and sleep well before you have chemsex. Your inner battery will be charged and you will be rested. Your body will be stronger.

During sex

  • Preferably, you should only use one type of drug. You will able to determine what happens to you when the drugs take effect
  • Be careful how you take drugs:
    • it is better to swallow than to snort. That is less addictive
    • do you inject drugs into a vein (this is called slamming)? This is very dangerous. The risk of addiction is high. It is also bad for your health. You can get infections for example. It is better to snort, smoke or swallow the drugs.
Do you want to know more about slamming? And how to do it more safely? Read it here.
    • Make sure you drink enough: 1 glass of water per hour. Do not drink more than this. Drinking too much water is not good either
  • Make sure that you do not get overheated. Some drugs make your temperature go up. That can be dangerous. Make sure you cool off and preferably, do not wear clothes that do not breathe. Latex or rubber, for example
  • Do not go on for too long. Are you not getting enough sleep? If so, you will suffer more from a hangover in the days that follow. You could, for example, set an alarm for a few hours’ time, so that you do not go on for longer than you had planned.

After sex

Plan time to recover. Your body needs that. Especially if you carried on for too long or used a lot or various types of drugs.

Don’t get addicted

Don’t only have sex while taking drugs. Also have sex without drugs in between. That will allow you to keep doing your work well if you haven’t used drugs.

Do you feel like you can’t have sex any more without drugs or don’t want to? And do you need help? Read about who can help you.

Don’t get an STI

  • Do not share a snorting tube or needles
  • Do not share sex toys
  • Use condoms. Read about what condoms are safe
  • Take PrEP: this is a pill that keeps you from getting HIV. Read more about PrEP
  • Get an STI test at least twice a year. Read how to get an STI test

Take an STI test

Are you a sex worker? Then get an STI test twice a year. You can do this at your doctor’s officer or for free at the municipal health service (GGD). Then you will know for sure whether you have an STI. And you will get medicine for it right away.
