- Lube makes it easier for you to have sex and have it longer,
- especially with anal sex. But it also feels nicer during vaginal sex.
- You are also at a lower risk of getting an STI. You are less likely to get a minor wound
- Preferably, use a lube based on water or silicon
- Do not use any products containing oil or Vaseline as lube. These can cause the condom to break
Why use lube?
You are probably not always aroused when you have sex with a client. As a result, there is less space in your vagina and you are not as moist as when you are aroused. On top of that, sex may be painful. Your anus will not become moist on its own and it is tighter. Do you use lube during sex? The sex is nicer and safer.
You can use lube.
- During vaginal sex
- During anal sex
- When fingering or masturbating
Your client’s penis or fingers, or a sex toy, go in more easily. You can then have sex longer without it hurting or leading to an injury.
Less chance of an STI
Do you use lube? Then you are at less risk of getting an STI. You are less likely to get a minor wound. And, if you have a small wound on your vagina, penis or anus, it is easier for you to get an STI. Also use a condom to make sure you don’t get an STI. Read more about condoms
Working safely? Get an STI test
Are you a sex worker? In that case, you can get an STI. Get an STI test at the municipal health service (GGD) or at your doctor's office twice a year. Then you will know for sure whether you have an STI. And you will get medicine immediately if necessary.
Which lube?
Preferably, use a lube based on water or silicon. These will not cause the condom to break. What lube do you choose? There are advantages and disadvantages to both.
Water-based lube
Water-based lube is sticky. You can buy it at the supermarket or at a drugstore. It’s easier to wash off of yourself and your client. And it is easier to remove from your clothing or linens.
The disadvantage of water-based lube is that it can become sticky and you have to reapply it often.
Silicon-based lube
Silicon-based lube feels smooth on your skin. You can also buy it at the supermarket and drugstore. You can use it longer and don’t have to reapply it as often. You can also use it in the shower or in the bath because it doesn’t wash away as quickly at water-based lube.
The disadvantage of silicon-based lube is that it is more difficult to remove it from your linens or clothes. And silicon-based lube is more expensive than water-based lube.
Some people are allergic to lube, but this is not common.
Lube with flavor, scent or for a different sensation
There are also flavored and scented types of lube and lube that gives a warm and tingling feeling when you put it on. Some clients like this or find it pleasant. For these types of lube as well, check whether the lube is water based or silicone based. Choose what you prefer to use.
Using lube
This is how to use lube during sex:
- Put lube on before the penis, fingers or the toy enters the vagina or anus. Put it on the condom and the vagina or anus or on a sex toy or your hand.
- You can also apply it before you are with your client. If you do, it will feel like to your client that your vagina is already moist
- You can use silicon-based or water-based lube. Using a silicon-based lube means you can often carry on having sex longer.
- Do you have sex in the anus? If so, use more lube
- Do you have sex for a long time - more than 15 minutes? In that case, use more lube if you notice that the sex no longer feels nice
- Does it also feel unpleasant when you use lube? Try a different position. Or try to slow down a bit. You can also stop if that’s possible
- Do not use silicon-based lube on sex toys that are made of silicon. This may cause the toys to break

You can catch Hepatitis B by having sex. Especially if you don’t use a condom. You can get very sick from it. Get vaccinated for free at the municipal health service (GGD). That way, you won’t catch this STI.
